Relationships and Commitment

There comes a time in most relationships when both partners want a more meaningful commitment. The discussion may occur about being monogamous to one another and totally devoted to each other.

This is not a step to be taken lightly. First of all, you are giving up your freedom to date other people and pursuing other relationships. Then again, you are taking your relationship to the next level and developing a deeper emotional bond to one another.

When do you know you are ready for a commitment? Your heart should let you know that this is the person that you want to have in your life for a very long time. Perhaps you are even thinking of marriage and agreeing to a commitment is the first step in the enrichment of your relationship. If you are ready to give up your freedom as a single person and devote your love to this one special person, then your are ready for a commitment. However, if you are not sure that this is the person you want to love and give your love to exclusively, then take your time before agreeing to a commitment.

If you really care about someone, the last thing you want to do is hurt that person. Saying you are committed to the relationship gives them a feeling of security and they will believe that there is a long term future with you. If you change your mind there will surely be heartbreak.

Do not rush into a commitment unless you are sure you are ready to devote your love, trust and future to that person. Commitment, like marriage, is not something you can take lightly. Much thought should be given to this decision before you actually make a commitment to someone. You must be ready to give your loyalty, devotion and faithfulness to one another exclusively.
